Autographed J.A. Michell Gyro Dec Special Edition

w/Rega RB300 Tone Arm & Extras

Please Read Terms & Conditions Before Bidding

See Additional Photos & Info Here

Description

This is a Special Built and SIGNED "J.A. Michell, January 7th, 1990" GyroDec, similar to the current "MKII Limited Edition" (with black chassis and Gold Motor Housing, Armboard, Spring Caps and Platter Weights) It was built to include the Rega RB300 Tone Arm & Audio-Technica Phono Cartridge.

The J.A. Michell GyroDec turntables are precision instruments, built to last, and to reproduce sound as close as possible to the mastertape.

J.A. Michell, in addition to being a leading audio component manufacturer for almost 40 years, is also well known for contributions to the movie industry in the engineering of props for "2001-Space Odyssey" and others, as well as motorcar and aircraft builders.

After the passing of John Michell in October 2003, Michell Engineering honored his memory with 100 units of a special edition commemorative turntable that sold for over $5000. These are "sold out" and the chance of finding someone wishing to sell their unit is not too likely. Of course, getting one at or below the original price is even less likely, as the collector value for such a unit would increase due to the limited availability.

Well, this opportunity to own an Autographed J.A. Michell GyroDec, signed & dated by the world renowned master John Michell, is also a very rare occasion for any audiophile.

Specifics About This Unit:

This Gyro Dec was built by J.A. Michell in the U.K. and was personally signed and dated at the bottom edge of the GyroDec plate affixed to the acrylic dust cover on the front left corner. His autographed signature and the date "January 7th 1990" are hand scribed into the plate, as noted in the pictures.

This classic Gyro Dec three-point spring-suspended turntable is mounted in the Bronze tinted acrylic Dust Case, and also includes the Gold Record Clamp with J.A. Michell Engineering emblazoned on it, as well as the Rega/Michell RB300 Tone Arm installed with an Audio-Technica AT-F5/OCC Phono Cartridge.

Features & Description:

  • Single acrylic chassis, aluminum suspended subchassis with stabilized operation and internally isolated suspension turrets
  • Impedance-matched acrylic/vinyl platter, with brass weights for high inertia
  • Gold Record clamp with J.A. Michell Engineering, Ltd. England in black script lettering
  • Custom Gold Arm Board
  • Custom Gold Spring Caps
  • Custom Gold standalone motor (original UK model, missing power cord/adapter - DC motor upgrade recommended)
  • Finished in Bronze-tinted Acrylic Dust Case with aluminium hinges (there are some scratches in the middle of the top cover, on the inside, covering approximately a 1" diameter area)
  • Rega/Michell RB300 Tone Arm (more info below)
  • Set-up Instructions/Care & Maintenance, Cartridge Alignment Guage & Record Clamp Information is Included
  • There are a few minor scratches (perhaps 1mm or so) on the edge of the black chassis, in the Tone Arm area, as seen in the pictures. These are not very noticeable, as I didn't notice them until I saw them in the pictures and they seem much more noticeable in the pictures than normal visual inspection, probably due to close-up shots exaggerating the details. A black touch-up pen will easily take care of this, but I'll let you do it.

This unit was purchased as part of a buy-out and this unit has been in storage since being brought to the U.S. in the 90's and was never updated to work on 110V.
For information on accessories, parts & upgrades, see U.S. Dealer at http://www.artech-electronics.com/us/products/michell/mich_upg.html .

Rega/Michell RB300 Tone Arm (included)

Of course, this Special Built Gyro Dec would not be complete without two of the finest pieces of audio-techophile equipment in the world... the Rega/Michell RB300 Tone Arm, installed with an Audio-Technica AT-F5/OCC Phono Cartridge. The Rega RB300 Tone Arm improves on the also excellent RB250 tone arm by the addition of the Vertical Downforce Tracking Adjustment Dial and higher tolerance bearings.

The Rega RB300 Tone Arm award winning design due to its unsurpassed build and sound quality, is Hand-Made from a single aluminum casting, from the bearing through to the headshell, which was previously thought to be impossible, and is unchanged to this day. Vertical downforce is set using a springloaded dial to adjust the counterweight.

First launched in 1983, the legendary Rega tonearm is one of the most famous tonearms ever produced and still just as popular today. The Rega tonearm has sold over a quarter of a million units worldwide and sales still continue, even in the digital age.

Fitted to this Autographed J.A. Michell Gyro Dec Turntable, the Rega RB300 Tone Arm will never be found lacking in performance and will work with equal-quality cartridges to provide you with the most astonishing musical quality ever imagined.

Cartridge/Tonearm Alignment Gauge is also included.

Condition

While I feel that this Autographed J.A. Michell Gyro Dec should be in good working condition due to my brief dialog with the original owner and the care that was exhibited in the packing of this unit, I can NOT guarantee this with regards to functionality, since I have not personally verified its' operation and have only unpacked the unit from the box for photos. You are purchasing this unit "as-is", with no warranties or guaranties, with the exception of features as described. You are bidding only on the item as shown in the pictures and the documentation described. I have attempted to provide as much information as I have been able to find on this unit and determined from visual inspection or provided by others opinions or statements which may or may not be deemed reliable.

As this item is being sold "as-is, where-is" with no warranties or guarantees expressed or implied, except as specifically stated in the descriptions given and considering this is being sold in "Used Condition" and there may be minor scratches or other blemishes from normal wear & tear as expected with any used item, which I may have missed in my observations and/or description and such normal wear & tear may not be considered "Significantly Not as Described" in accordance with PayPal terms & conditions.

Payment, Shipping & Terms for Bidding:

1.) This auction is open to all U.S.A. residents and I will ONLY consider Canada & UK on a case by case basis, as described below.

2.) Payment by Visa or Mastercard submitted by phone or PayPal Only with CONFIRMED PayPal Address and please insure that you have a PayPal account before bidding. It's Free to Buyers. Sign Up for PayPal Here. Contact and/or Payment should be made within 24 hours of auction ending time. Any Final Payment arrangements should be completed within 48 hours of auction ending.

3.) Insurance is Required and will be calculated into the Shipping Charges paid by the Buyer. Since insured value is determined by the high bid, actual insurance costs can not be determined until the auction is over. (See More Info on UPS Shipping below)

4.) Texas Residents MUST pay Sales Tax. State law also requires sales tax to be paid on the shipping charges. Sorry, I don't make the laws, but we have to comply. You may visit the Texas Comptroller's website, if you wish to verify this information.

5.) Texas Dealers must contact me within 24 hours and prior to payment, as you must provide a valid Texas Resale Certificate, if you are buying only for resale. However, if it is for your own personal use, gift, etc., you MUST pay the Texas Sales Tax.

6.) Shipping: Unit will ship by UPS and ONLY to a PayPal Confirmed Address or the Visa or Mastercard Billing Address, with "Signature Required" . The address must be a Physical Address, as UPS will Not deliver to P.O. Boxes.

7.) UPS Shipping & Insurance Charges are based on weight (approximately 50lbs) and zip code, and the insurance is based on final sale price and will be added to the shipping charges.

8.) Shipment of Package will normally be shipped within 2-3 days, after confirmation of payment is received. UPS Tracking Number will be sent to you, after UPS notifies me that the package has shipped.

NOTE: The reason for the "confirmation of payment" is because I have experienced delays with PayPal posting funds in a Seller's account after they have received funds from the Buyer. This may be due, in part, to PayPal's Policies, section "4.4 Payment Review" as noted on their website: "Payment Review means that PayPal will review certain potentially high-risk transactions. If a payment is subject to Payment Review, PayPal will place a hold on the payment and provide notice to the seller to delay shipping the item."
I wish to insure your security, as well as mine. Your patience and consideration is appreciated.

9.) Canada & UK - I will only consider Canada or England (UK) on a case by case basis (PayPal payment Only) and any interested bidders outside the U.S.A. must contact me prior to bidding and provide your Confirmed PayPal Physical Address (remember, no postal boxes for UPS) and PayPal ID for verification purposes. If you do not contact me prior to bidding, your bids will be rejected. Also see #11 below.

10.) Upon contacting me, please consider that it may take up to 24 hours to receive a reply, as my computer is not manned 24hrs/day and this is not my primary job. So, please plan ahead, as last minute attempts to contact me may not be successful and if these terms are not met, and you are the high bidder, I maintain and reserve the right to cancel the sale for failure to meet the terms, as described.

11.) If you are outside the Continental U.S., I am Not Responsible for customs delays, any kind of VAT, Import or other taxes that may be required by YOUR country. This means YOU are responsible for any paying taxes as required by YOUR country, so please consider this prior to bidding. I do not know what the taxes are for Your Country or typical shipping times (although since my wife is Canadian, I know that Canada Post is SLOW and we have had packages delayed through Canadian Customs regardless of the carrier), so please check with the proper authorities in YOUR country for this information. I have shipped numerous packages to Canada & Denmark, as well as other countries and I have found that tracking information may not be accurate, once the package leaves the U.S. border. If you haven't received your package when expected, it is advised that you contact your customs and/or UPS for information. Please consider these factors, as such delays and taxes are beyond my control.

12.) Packing: The unit will NOT be disassembled for shipping. I have removed the Gold Spring Covers and wrapped them separately, so they don't come loose and bounce around. I have padded bubble-wrap between the acrylic case & the aluminum base to minimize movement against the springs. Bubble wrap has been place over the platter to help protect it and then used ty-wraps to secure platter to the base. Additional bubble-wrap has been added on top of platter to slightly compress when the cover is closed to also help reduce movement. Unit is set on styrofoam to keep feet from resting on bottom of the box and foam cushions on top corners of the acrylic case, with light bubble-wrap packing on sides.

13.) If you have any questions, please ask Before Bidding. If you wish to make an offer, you may contact me with reasonable offers.

Thank you for your interest and Enjoy the Auction for this Unique Opportunity to own this Rare Autographed J.A. Michell Gyro Dec which represents a special part of audiophile history.
